POLICE are appealing for information after the theft of a 200-year-old anvil from The Old Forge in High Road, Eastcote.
The anvil, which is believed to weigh 80lbs and is dark green in colour, was sitting in the front garden of an address before it was stolen between 11.30pm last Tuesday, April 13 and 5.30am on April 14.
It is believed to have been used by a local blacksmith long before any homes were built in the area and its owners have described it as an 'irreplaceable artefact from the history of the ward of Northwood Hills'.
The anvil's history is included in the Celandine Route walk and is promoted by Walks in Hillingdon.
PC Tim Hall of the Northwood Hills safer neighbourhood team said: "This is a distinctive item which has a local historic value. I urge anyone who has any information about the theft or the whereabouts of this anvil to contact us on 0208 721 2546."
