AN INSPIRATIONAL secondary school pupil has been selected as an anti-bullying ambassador.

Naren Kondhia, 14, from Kingsbury High School, was chosen from 100 applicants to be a National Anti-bullying Ambassador and Youth Board Member, in a scheme organised by The Diana Award.

He is one of 16 young people from across the country to sit on the board, which will represent the views of thousands of young people.

Naren, who lives in Kingsbury, said: “I am delighted to be part of the National Anti-Bullying Youth Board and I am looking forward to representing young peoples’ views about bullying and sharing best practice. By being a board member, I feel I will definitely make a difference to the lives of other young people who have experienced bullying or have been a bully themselves.”

The Diana Award was set up in 1999 by the government and has so far given 36,000 young people from across the UK special recognition through award schemes.

The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors programme will receive no further government funding from April 2013.

To ensure the future of ambassador programmes in schools, more funding is needed.
