THE inquest into the death of a woman whose body was found in a canal on Christmas Day has been opened and adjourned.

It was confirmed that the 23-year-old’s name was Rubena Malik, also known as Ruby Love, at a short hearing at West London Coroner’s Court, in Fulham, on Thursday, January 5.

Ms Malik’s body was discovered by a passerby in the Grand Union Canal in Southall, west London, at 11.40am on December 25.

The inquest heard that she had died earlier that day.

A post-mortem examination held the following day at Uxbridge Mortuary could not establish a cause of death and police are awaiting the results of further tests.

The single mother of three lived with her family in The Meadow Way, Harrow Weald.

Manzar Juma, 27, of Hexham Gardens, Northolt was charged with Ms Malik’s murder on December 29, two days after being arrested.

He was denied bail at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, January 3, and was remanded back in custody until a plea hearing on March 23.
