Industrial units could be built at the site of a former factory, helping to rejuvenate an 'eyesore' area and create jobs, if planning consent is given.

Optima Capital (UK) Limited has applied for permission to construct two modern industrial buildings at the Uxbridge Industrial Estate, where the Trimite paint factory once stood.

The company, which owns the site in Arundel Road, Uxbridge, hopes eventually to erect a 'series' of warehouses and industrial buildings designed to suit a 'range of occupiers'.

In documents lodged with Hillingdon Council, the company says the development would 'help to regenerate a site which has been run down for some time, bringing it back into beneficial use.'

Ward councillor Tony Burles agreed, saying the proposed development would also help to create jobs.

He said: “It would be very good for the area. I've been wondering what's going to happen with that site and more industrial units will help regenerate it.

“Trimite used to be one of the main employers in the area and that whole area, while still reasonably busy, has got a bit run down since the Trimite building has been flattened.

“Any development would be good because it will bring jobs to the area.”

Commercial real estate firm Colliers International is preemptively handling the sale of the units.

Len Rosso, Colliers' head of industrial logistics, said he had already received a number of expressions of interest.

He added that the development could be completed by the end of 2015 if granted planning permission, and said it would be 'great news for Uxbridge'.

He said: "It was a big employment site for many, many years and it has lost that a bit and become a bit of an eyesore.

"[Trimite] has been a key site within the trading estate and to see it close ... it's good to see something actually happening down there."

Optima Capital (UK) Limited acquired the site in late 2013.

If it is allowed to go ahead with its full plans, the development would create 3,950m² of industrial space.

Planning officers are scheduled to make a decision by January 21, 2015.
