The organiser of the Hillingdon Half-Marathon is delighted with the number of runners entered for the first race in 10 years.

James Shipley of activetrainingworld.com said 745 athletes will line up on Sunday for the 13-mile challenge through the streets of the borough. The race starts at Brunel University at 9am and the first runner could cross the finish line back on the campus little mote than an hour later, said Mr Shipley.

“We think there might be one or two runners under 70 minutes,” said Mr Shipley.

“One guy has a personal best of 69 minutes, so we are hopeful.”

The race, back after 10-year absence, has proved popular, and to get that proportion of a 1,000-runner maximum field is impressive, said Mr Shipley.

“We are really happy,” he said.

“As a comparison, the Luton Half Marathon got 550 for its first year.

“I think [Hillingdon’s entry] is a decent size and not too far off the maximum.”

Entries for the race closed today (Friday) at noon.

The race has a number of sponsors, among them Nestle, of Nestles Avenue, Hayes, and IBB Solicitors of Capital Court, Windsor Street, Uxbridge, both of whom have entered large teams of runners, said Mr Shipley.

For spectators, Brunel University campus off Kingston Lane, Uxbridge, offers good, traffic free viewing points, with ample parking.

But if you want to cheer on the runners as they pass through your neighbourhood, see the map below for the race route.
