MP ANGIE Bray took her place on a Dragons Den style panel assessing social action projects presented by young people.

The 16 and 17-year-olds from Ealing participated on Wednesday last week (July 31) as part of the National Citizen Service scheme run by The Challenge Network.

Five teams of 12 were judged on their ideas which included cheaper cinema tickets for teens one day a week, doing one good deed a day and encouraging others to ‘pass it on’, campaigning for better cycling facilities in Ealing and ways to encourage young people to respect themselves and have more confidence.

The programme, now in its third year, is a combination of team building courses, community projects and the learning of new skills.

It has expanded from 8,500 places in 2011 to 50,000 this year with up to 90,000 expected to take part in 2014. The course is available at a minimum cost, with bursaries available.

Angie Bray, MP for Ealing central and Acton, said: “This is the third year I have been on the dragons panel, and yet again, I was impressed by the original and creative ideas that were presented in such a concise and passionate manner.

“It is clear that the scheme has been a great success, with the young people exuding confidence and commitment, working together in teams of what had been strangers at the start of the course.

She added: “They presented us with great ideas and I wish them all the best with their projects which will be rolled out in Ealing in September.”
