CREATIVE children saw their artwork turned into animation which will be used for a charity’s national advert.

The Year 4 pupils from Stanburn Primary School, in Abercorn Road, Stanmore, brought a new Christian Aid television advertisement to life with their hand-drawn illustrations.

The 30-second video, which supports Christian Aid Week between May 11 and May 17, highlights this year’s theme – conflict – and asks the British public to support its work with families and communities in war-ravaged countries around the world, helping ordinary people to live a life free from fear.

Teacher Adrienne Ashley said: “It was a really worthwhile experience in developing the children’s awareness of some of the problems in the world and showing them some of the great work done by Christian aid.

“They also had a fantastic time designing the art work and look forward to seeing the results on the advert.”

The film used the children’s illustrations drawn during lessons and the animation will be produced by creative agency Kream and animated by Blue Zoo Animation.

It tells the true story of Wayisaba, a 12 year-old girl from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country blighted by decades of conflict which has left more than 1.3 million people displaced and where 80 per cent of the population live on less than $1 a day.

Wayisaba was separated from her parents when rebels attacked her village and she was forced to flee.

Along with many other children, she was taken in by a Christian Aid-funded partner organisation which, after a year of searching, finally found her parents and reunited the family.

Tom Barratt, Christian Aid’s head of marketing communications, said: “This year Christian Aid Week focuses on our work in conflict-affected countries around the world.

“In the UK, people’s understanding of conflict is often made up from the political or military imagery we see in the news. We may have little understanding of how conflict affects real people’s lives.”

The advert will be aired on ITV, Channel 4, SKY and across other satellite channels between May 8 and May 15 but watch it here now.
