FIVE illegal immigrants have been arrested in a raid in Kensal Green.

Acting on intelligence, officers visited an address in Station Terrace on Tuesday morning and arrested three Brazilian women and a Malaysian man for overstaying their visas. A Chinese man was arrested for entering the UK illegally.

The operation was part of planned nationwide action by the UK Border Agency to tackle illegal immigration and organised immigration crime.

The Brazilians and Malaysian are in detention awaiting their removal from the country, while the Chinese man has been granted bail while the agency works to get the travel documents necessary to remove him.

Damian Green, the immigration minister, said: "The government has tasked the UK Border Agency with carrying out an intense period of enforcement activity over the summer. We are determined to make it harder than ever for illegal immigrants to come to the UK."

The UK Border Agency has the power to hit businesses caught employing illegal immigrants with civil penalties of up to £10,000 per offender.
