POLICE are still hunting a gunman after a schoolboy was shot following a scuffle in the street.
The 14-year-old's condition is not believed to be life threatening and a police spokesman described his condition as "very stable."
But the news a firearm was let off in Sudbury Heights Avenue, Greenford, near the junction with Allendale Road, has shocked neighbours.
A man in his 60s, who asked not to be named, was inside Ladbrokes betting shop at the time, between 1pm and 2pm on New Year's Eve.
He said: "It didn't sound like a gun, it sounded like a starting pistol, it was like a popping noise.
"I had seen about eight or ten black lads beforehand, there's always groups hanging around here.
"It looked like something was going to kick off but I didn't think it would be anything like that."
A hairdresser, in her 30s, working at Eli's Hair and Beauty Salon, added: "I didn't hear anything because of the noise of the dryers and music but clients came in and said a boy was lying on the floor.
"I went to the window and saw a man carrying him and putting him in a minicab at the end of the road."
Officers were alerted by staff at a north west London hospital where the teenager was taken by two men.
It is being investigated by Operation Trident, a police team dedicated to tackling gun crime among the black community.
