Hundreds of people picked up healthy tips on shopping, cooking and eating well with diabetes, during the Enjoy Food event in Feltham last week.

More than 300 people visited the Diabetes UK stand at the Tesco store in Feltham, last Thursday (17), where they met dietitians and volunteers who informed them of simple ways to save money and calories and how to eat five fruit and vegetables a day.

Alan Grand-Hillier, from Feltham, who picked up information and advice, said: “The Enjoy Food event is brilliant, more people should be made aware of eating healthily.

“If people understood half of what was in their food they’d think again.

"Talking with the dietitian was really useful and the swap and save calories information was great - I’ll never eat croissants again.

"I enjoy Weetabix and berries so I’ll make that instead.”

Two thirds of people who were tested during a diabetes roadshow last month in Hounslow were found to be at risk of developing the condition.

The condition develops when there is too much glucose in the blood because the body cannot use it properly, and people can be diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

Anthony Browne, deputy store manager at Feltham said: “We were proud to support the Enjoy Food Event.

"The stand was a great way to interact with customers and to educate them about healthy eating.

"The recipe cards were popular too, they give people new ideas and alternatives to their normal recipes.”

Diabetes UK has developed the Enjoy Food events through the National Charity Partnership with Tesco.
