Two Hounslow schools were delighted to receive hundreds of unwanted chairs which added the finishing touch to newly refurbished classrooms.

Pupils and teachers at Feltham Community College (FCC) on Browell's Lane, Feltham, and Lampton School on Lampton Avenue, Hounslow, were chosen by local charity Spark and home developers Taylor Wimpey to receive 150 chairs each.

The Hounslow school has used them as part of the refurbishment in the teacher training building, while the college has placed them in the new ICT rooms and the sixth form study area.

Head of marketing at Taylor Wimpey, Karen Bremner, one of the people who helped organise the donation, said: “We contacted Spark! and asked them to help us find a worthy school that would benefit from the chairs, as it seemed like such a waste to throw them away when others could make use of them.

“We are thrilled to be able to help both Lampton School and Feltham Community College and hope that our donation will make a difference.

"It’s great to know the chairs have been put to good use rather than being wasted!”

Following a revamp of the developers regional offices they were left with 300 seats that were no longer needed.

Instead of throwing them out employees decided to ask Spark, which helps young people prepare for adult and working life, to pick two schools in the borough to give them to.

Victoria Eadie, headteacher at FCC, said: “We are delighted with our chairs from Taylor Wimpey as we have managed to refurbish our ICT rooms as well as our sixth form common room study area.

"The chairs make these areas look really smart and professional, so we want to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey!”

Stephen Davis, headteacher designate at Lampton School, said: “I would like to thank Taylor Wimpey for their generosity for the chairs they so kindly donated, they will be used as part of the refurbishment of our teacher training building.”
