Thousands of revellers soaked up the sun at two Vaisakhi celebrations yesterday (Sunday, April 13).

An estimated 5,000 people flocked to Lampton Park for a Vaisakhi Mela organised by Akash Radio, where Punjabi film star Binnu Dhillon and comedian and actor Rana Ranbir were among the big draws.

More than 400 people, meanwhile, enjoyed a free funfair at Norwood Green Park, organised by Asian Events Media, featuring a bouncy castle and rides for children, and DJ sets and live music for those of all ages.

Organiser Jaz Walia said: "It was a marvellous day and everyone enjoyed it."

He also thanked the volunteers and sponsors, including Southall Travel and Chimes shopping centre, in Uxbridge, for making the event possible.

Vaisakhi is the Sikh harvest festival, which also celebrates the formation of the brotherhood of the Khalsa, one of the most important dates in the religion's history.
