Hounslow is a no-go zone for cupid according to an April Fools joke by a website promoting London's most romantic neighbourhoods.

It was the subject of a spoof article today on the site BooBoots , which highlights the best places, from walks to restaurants, to show your passionate side.

The article features a shot of a lonely street sweeper outside the boarded-up former Wheelhouse building, in Bell Road, Hounslow, accompanied by the cheeky caption: "It's a place where London’s social elite mingle in the street."

It continues to extol the area's amorous possibilities, alongside photos ranging from a homeless person outside McDonald's to an abandoned trolley with a takeaway bag and two cans of lager, via the town centre's many boarded-up pubs.

In case you hadn't twigged by the time you reached the end of the article, it concludes: "Then hop on the H37 bus and head off to one of Hounslow's poorer cousins, Richmond. As you leave make note of this special date, April 1st, the day you discovered romantic Hounslow. And spare a thought for all the fools who've yet to find this eighth wonder of west London."

Hounslow's not always had a reputation as a romance-free zone. Legend has it Claude Duval , known as the 'romantic highwaymen', used to haunt Hounslow Heath and once danced with a female victim before robbing her of her money. However, he was eventually hanged.

Although Hounslow itself may not be a capital courtship, the east of the borough has long been a favourite with directors shooting romance dramas.

* What do you think? Is Hounslow fair game for such a spoof? Do you know of any genuinely romantic spots in the area or have you found love there?
