A WOMAN from Hounslow has been charged in connection with the disorder at the Dale Farm travellers site in Essex.

The 26-year-old was charged last Thursday (October 20) with failing to remove a face covering.

Essex Police this week refused to name the woman, who has been bailed to appear at Southend Magistrates' Court next Wednesday (November 2).

She was one of three people to have been charged in connection with violence at the site as of Tuesday (October 25) this week.

A total of 40 arrests have been made for alleged offences including violent disorder and obstructing police.

A caravan was set alight and there were reports of bricks, debris and even urine being thrown at police as riot officers moved in to clear the illegal part of the travellers site last Wednesday (October 19).

Travellers accused Essex Police of using excessive force, with Tasers being deployed and one woman claiming to have been hit by a baton.

Last week's eviction marks the end of a 10-year legal battle between travellers and Basildon Council, estimated to have cost up to £18 million.

The dispute began after travellers bought an old scrap yard on green belt land, next to an existing legal travellers site, onto which they moved caravans and built semi-permanent homes in breach of planning regulations.
