A GROUP who turned Beaversfield Park from a crime hotspot to a safe-haven have been praised by the Mayor of London.
Subhash Mahajan and Tilak Sharma , members of the Friends of Beaversfield Park, were awarded a Team London Star by Boris Johnson on Tuesday March 13 in recognition of their hard work.
The park in Rosemary Avenue, Hounslow West, was a virtual no-go area for years, with users complaining about noisy drinkers, vandalism and violence, but thanks to the group's hard work it has been recognised as one of the safest parks in London.
Mr Mahajan, who volunteers in the park everyday, said: "It is really rewarding, I have been volunteering in the park for two and a half years now. We have some people who are very active and about 46 people in total in the organisation.
"I devote my own time to looking after the park. It used to be a mess, but it is really nice there now."
Other active members of the group include Arishan Bhapia, Sarfraj Ahmed, Sucha Singh Gill and Subhash Mahajan.
Speaking at the event in City Hall, London, Mr Johnson said: "The volunteers have made the park look wonderful, they have made an area that is loved by all the community."
