NEARLY half (48 per cent) the pupils at Hounslow Manor School achieved five or more A*-Cs including English and maths - a 100 per cent improvement from five years ago.

The figure was up five per cent on last year, which, given the national decline, headteacher Anjali Sakhardande described as a 'stunning' result.

Star pupils included Michael Lloyd, with eight A* and A grades, and Anisha Gurung, who bagged 10 of the top two grades.

Ms Sakhardande said: "Our students have achieved excellent results, many exceeding their targets.

"We are especially delighted at the increase in A* and A grades in many subjects and in the number of distinctions in our vocational courses.

"We are equally pleased and proud of the successes of a significant number of students who have succeeded despite experiencing serious challenging circumstances."
