Leave your car at home and head down to Hounslow town centre on Saturday for a special event to help make the area greener.

The Hounslow Car Free Day will take place in Montague Road car park and the High Street with the aim of getting people out of their cars and into alternative means of transport.

Cllr Barbara Reid, the council's lead member for the environment, said: "We are committed to making it easier for people to choose footways, cycle routes and bus lanes, and have already been recognised as London's most improved transport borough."

The day is part of European Mobility week - an initiative to promote green travel and reduce CO2 emissions.

The activities and gifts on offer include a free smoothie made by pedal power, getting your bike fixed for free and saving on petrol by signing onto the London wide car sharing database.
