HOUNSLOW Council is taking action to stop dodgy chiropractors operating in the borough.

The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) ruled in May that chiropractors should not advertise themselves as doctors unless they are medically qualified and that they should not refer to the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, colic and learning difficulties, as such treatment methods are unproven.

A spokeswoman for Hounslow Council said no specific chiropractors had been targeted for action, but added: "The council is in the process of advising all chiropractors in the area."

The ASA warned that chiropractors who fail to follow their guidance could leave themselves open to prosecution.
