A Hounslow barista's calorific creation has won him a prestigious international title.

Kungku Gurung's invention, the Doppio Cortado Chocolate Indulgence, combines espresso coffee with milk, white chocolate and pouring cream, all topped with sprinkles of Belgian chocolate.

The decadent brew blew judges away at Costa's Barista of the Year competition, held at London's Vinopolis last month, winning him the speciality drink title and second place in the contest overall.

The 24-year-old, who has worked at the Heathrow Premier Inn Costa store for seven years, said he was delighted to have beaten thousands of baristas from around the world.

"I can't believe I've won this title with my speciality drink. It's been great having all of my team come and support me today. It's given me great confidence in my skills as a barista," he said.

"I'm glad that all of my development work, creating my own chocolate recipe and really perfecting my drink has led to me being awarded this title and to come second in the overall Barista of the Year competition is just overwhelming!"

Mr Gurung's prize was a two-night break to a 'Costa inspired' location of his choice.
