HOUNSLOW is to get a town centre manager as part of attempts to transform the area.

Councillors agreed last week to spend £150,000 from the developers behind the Blenheim Centre on recruiting a full-time manager.

The successful applicant's main responsibility will be to oversee the implementation of the 'masterplan' to regenerate Hounslow town centre. However, they will also be asked to support the continued regeneration of Brentford town centre.

The position, which pays up to £37,000 a year and comes with a three-year fixed-term contract, has already been advertised by the council.

The job notice promises applicants 'the opportunity to engage and strengthen retail and other business representation in the borough and to become the council's key point of contact for the consultation on the exciting new development of a masterplan for Hounslow town centre, which is one of London's metropolitan centres'.

It asks for candidates who are 'experienced in engaging a wide range of business representatives and local stakeholders' and understand the 'dynamics affecting the retail industry and other business sectors that have an impact on Hounslow's town centres'.
