A CONVICTED fraudster who worked as a radiographer has been struck off the register at Hillingdon Hospital for failing to declare his convictions.

Victor Ababio, who began work at the hospital last year, was called before the Health Professions Council (HPC) on Monday to explain why he had not told his bosses at the hospital of his criminal record.

Mr Ababio, who applied to work at the hospital, in Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon, last February was found guilty in 2005 on three counts of deception.

He told the hearing he was given incorrect legal advice at the time of his conviction and was genuinely remorseful.

However the HPC decreed that despite this, failing to declare a conviction amounts to misconduct, and his fitness to practise was impaired.

They described his actions as 'a case of serious and repeated dishonesty' in relation to both the subject matter of the original convictions and the failures to disclose these.

While the HPC agreed Mr Ababio posed no immediate danger to the public as regards his clinical practise, they agreed it was necessary to make a striking off order to maintain public confidence in the process and the profession.
