THERE were plenty of smiles and laughter when the charity Hope For Children hosted a special five-a-side tournament at the weekend.

Deputy Mayor of London Richard Barnes was the guest of honour at the special event, which was hosted by Ellen Wilkinson School in Acton.

And as well as the football there was also a children’s concert, raffle, lottery and other entertainments to keep adults and children happy.

Former Ealing councillor Seema Kumar, who is also one of the charity’s patron, provided the opening address at the event.

She said: “I think it was an absolutely superb day. People put so much hard work into making it happen so I’m really glad it was such a success. All the schools who took part did very well, but I know that Oaklands Primary School was particularly successful and took home a trophy.

“This is all about bringing out the talents of young people and giving them opportunities. If anyone else has ideas for future events we’d be delighted to hear from them.”

She added that she was particularly happy with the £600 raised on the day.
