AROUND a dozen homes in Greenford have been evacuated after a burst water main caused a major flood this morning.

Ealing Council has been evacuating residents around Greenford Road and set up a refuge centre since the main burst at around 7am this morning. The area is closed between Ruislip Road and Windmill Road.

London Fire Brigade has also been on the scene, using an inflatable pathway to help rescue people while pumping away excess water.

Thames Water said it is working at the scene and has restored water to most of the area with the intention of restoring it to all properties by later today. Homes in nearby Hounslow are also understood to have been affected by the burst.

Thames Water said: "A four-foot-wide water pipe burst in a field off Greenford Road at 7.15am today, flooding 10 homes. This affected the pressure of water through people's taps across the wider area.

"We are re-routing water from other parts of our network to restore service to normal. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, and in particular to people who have been flooded. We are starting off the insurance process today to get their homes and lives back to normal as soon as possible."

Areas affected include TW 3, 4, 5, 7, 14. UB2, NW10, HA0, W3 and W5.
