A FIRE spread through a house, gutting the roof, late in the evening.

Four fire engines and about 20 firefighters attended the fire in a house, opposite the Gillette factory, on Syon Lane in Isleworth on Tuesday at 9.55pm.

The whole of the roof and part of the first floor were wrecked by blaze.

Crews from Heston and Southall fire station stopped the fire from spreading to surrounding properties including a parade of shops, and had it under control by 10.23pm.

It is not yet known if anyone had to be rescued from the property or was inside when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
