PUPILS got ready for battle, and learnt about life in the dark ages during a practical lesson.

Year seven students put on medieval armour and helmets and were given a demonstration of battle tactics used by the Normans and Saxons at the Battle of Hastings before getting into shield formations for the Hands On History Day at Harlington Community School, in Pinkwell Avenue, Hayes.

They also explored peasant life and got into costume, as well as finding out about medieval medicine, food and farming techniques.

Teacher Adam Daoudi said: “It was a great pleasure for me to see our future historians showing such great passion and vigour for the 1066 period we have studied this year.”
