A WOMAN in her eighties who organises activities for her busy social club is in the running for this year’s Fabulous Fundraiser award.

In the seven years she has been a member of Cranford Good Neighbours, Pam Valentine-Duval, of Wheatley Crescent, Hayes, has taken an active role in helping pay for its upkeep by coming up with ideas to raise thousands of pounds.

The club meets twice weekly in Holy Angels Church Hall and members enjoy live entertainment, hot meals and regular trips.

Pam 81, said it is a labour of love to do things for the club.

“I have so many good friends in the group. It has become a big part of my life and I look forward to it every week,” she said.

“We get so many people who would otherwise be alone out of the house.”

“I am shocked to be nominated. I don’t do things like this for people to do things for me.

“We try to get donations but it can be very hard. Everyone does their bit.”

Money is raised through raffles and events such as bingo nights. Earlier this month, thanks to Pam’s charm, The Crown pub, in Hayes, agreed to host a fundraiser and match the amount raised. The overall total was £1,300.

Pam was nominated by fellow Cranford Neighbour Ann Tuitt, who said: “She’s an amazing lady. I am 10 years her junior and I couldn’t do everything she does.

“The funds she helps raise enable us to get out and about to places of interest that would not be possible otherwise.

“It would be so nice if she could be recognised.”

Pam is one of the dozens of remarkable people who have been put up for the Gazette’s Local Heroes awards.

At a ceremony in the summer those who go above and beyond to improve their community will be given due recognition.
