FROM next week, the people of Hillingdon have been given the opportunity to have their say on the issue of expansion at Heathrow. What is your stance?

Hillingdon Council is about to launch a referendum asking the local electorate whether a third runway should be built at Heathrow, and also whether or not they are in favour of more flights at the airport.

Voting papers will be delivered to households from Sunday (21) onwards.

Do you think expansion at Heathrow should be ruled out once and for all, or have you been convinced that more runways at Britain's and Europe's premier airport would best solve the UKs current hub airport capacity crisis?

We would like to hear your arguments for and against, for an article in next week's Uxbridge Gazette. To join the debate and possibly have your views published in the newspaper, email jack.griffith@trinitymirror.com.

Richmond borough is also conducting its own Heathrow referendum, and both boroughs will jointly announce their results on May 20. Voting closes on May 16.

Councillor Ray Puddifoot, the Leader of Hillingdon Council, said: "The matter of Heathrow expansion is a major issue in Hillingdon.

"I'd urge residents to have their say on this so we have a representative view of what the whole borough thinks.

"Heathrow affects everyone who lives here, whether you live in the villages surrounding it, or further north, so please have your say."

How the Heathrow expansion referendum will work

Every person on Hillingdon's electoral roll will be sent a referendum voting card with the two questions on it, along with a unique reference number and the web address where you can cast your vote.

You will be prompted to key in your unique number, and you can then answer the two questions. Each number can only be used once.

Those without internet access will be able to simply complete the card and return it in an envelope provided, or alternatively you will be able to drop your card in to any library or council office reception in the borough.
