Young performers from schools across Hillingdon wowed parents and teachers at an annual dance show.

Around 100 pupils aged between five and 15 took part in the third Yeading Cluster Schools Dance Festival on Thursday (March 12).

Styles showcased at the event, held at Barnhill Community High School, in Yeading Lane, Hayes, included Bollywood, jazz and street.

Organiser Helen Gillingham, dance teacher and key stage director at the school, said: “It went really well. The students all seemed to really enjoy performing and they all came off stage very excited.

“The feedback from the parents and staff who watched was very positive.”

Pupils from 11 schools across the borough – all primaries apart from Barnhill – had worked to create unique performances for the show.

Youngsters from Hedgewood School, in Weymouth Road, Hayes, based their dance on Roald Dahl’s story of Matilda.

Six- and seven-year-olds from Yeading Infant and Nursery School dedicated their dance about friendship to a former schoolmate, six-year-old Bolutito Shodipe, who died in August last year after being struck by her mother's car.

Rupinder Ahluwalia, headteacher at the school in Carlyon Road, Hayes, said: “It was very touching to see. I was a little bit emotional.

“The idea came from the children and it was such a lovely example of what they do.”
