PARK rangers across Hillingdon have been given new powers to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Five new members were sworn in as Constables at Uxbridge Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

The rangers, pictured together at Fassnidge Park, Uxbridge, hope new powers will help them enforce the by laws in Hillingdon's parks and open spaces and to deal with troublesome youths.

Jamie Bell, one of the park rangers, who covers green spaces in Yiewsley and West Drayton, said: "This will make our job easier, we've already noticed the parks getting busier during the recent weeks as the build up to summer starts.

"We do a lot of work with the police and safer neighbourhood teams already, and this will only help.

"We can confiscate alcohol and remove people riding mopeds around the parks which is often a problem.

"Our priority is to make our parks a safe place for people and families to enjoy."

Councillor Sandra Jenkins, cabinet member for environment, said: This is good news and will help our Ranger Patrol team ensure our parks and open spaces are enjoyed by everyone."
