The Mayor of Hillingdon and the borough's police commander will lead local faith groups in a peace walk in Uxbridge town centre.

The walk, organised by Hillingdon Council, the Police and Hillingdon Inter Faith Network, is held annually and marks a commitment to a safe and peaceful borough.

Hillingdon Mayor, Councillor Catherine Dann, said: "We recognise how important it is for our whole community to work together and we welcome events like this walk, which brings together people from different faiths and backgrounds with the common goal of peace.

"This is the eighth annual Peace Walk and it continues to grow from strength to strength," she said.

She will be joined in leading the walk on Sunday, September 21, by borough commander Detective Chief Superintendent Nick Downing.

The walk begins at Uxbridge Police Station in Warwick Place, off Harefield Road, at 1.30pm and continues to the Intu Shopping Centre.

Speeches will be made and there will be performances from the Met Police Service's Emerald Society Pipes and Drums band, Uxbridge based dance group Futunity and local schools.

A number of young people involved in national citizenship programme The Challenge will also be going along on the day to promote their community campaign and projects.
