CHILDREN were joined on a special walk to school by the Mayor of Hillingdon as they celebrated 10 years of their ‘walking bus’.
The scheme was set up by St Andrew’s School in Nursery Waye, Hillingdon, because of the large number of parents who back then drove their children to school and tried to park in the road.
The scheme is run by parent volunteers each morning, cutting down traffic congestion and reducing the danger to children arriving at school.
Staff member Jane Smith said: “We have provided the service continuously for 10 years come rain or shine, never missing a morning. This is down to the dedication of our volunteers, and without them we would not be able to continue.”
The Big Walk, last Wednesday, was aimed at encouraging even more children to use the walking bus.
The Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Mary O'Connor, was the front in full regalia.
