Hillingdon has maintained its reputation as the greenest borough in the country.

It was awarded more Green Flag awards than any other local authority in the whole of the United Kingdom, for the second year running.

It scooped a total of 28 awards for its parks and open spaces - four more than last year and an all-time high.

The four new accolades were presented to: Ruislip Lido, Manor Farm in Ruislip ,the Rural Activities Garden Centre in West Drayton Road and Yeading Valley Meadows.

Hillingdon now has 12 flags in the north of the borough and 16 in the south.

Councillor Jonathan Bianco, cabinet member for finance, property and business services, said: “It is a wonderful achievement to be crowned the greenest borough in the country and to have maintained this title for the second year. We have the most green flags but we also have the most land in London under Green Flag status too, this is a great start to Love Parks Week.

“I would like to thank all of the volunteers and community groups who have helped us to achieve this, their support is much appreciated.”

The Green Flag Awards, which are managed by a group of environmental charities, are the highest mark of quality for parks and open spaces and winners must apply each year to renew their status.

The national award is judged on criteria including; a welcoming place, healthy, safe and secure, well maintained and clean, sustainability, conservation and heritage, community involvement, marketing and management.
