The leader of Hillingdon Council has today (Friday, July 11) given his thanks to Uxbridge and South Ruislip MP John Randall and said if Boris Johnson does apply to be his replacement in 2015, he will not be alone.
Councillor Ray Puddifoot, the Conservative leader of the council, said: "In all this discussion and focus about who comes in next, we need to start by recognising that John Randall gave 17 years of outstanding service to this borough and to his constituents.
"He is an honest politician who worked hard for the people in his constituency."
He said: "I like Boris, he is a friend of Hillingdon and from working with him I know he, like John, is an honest politician. When he gives you his word on something he does it and for politicians, that is worth a lot.
"In reality what we have to remember is that there will be a number of people from outside of the area who will express an interest in the Uxbridge and South Ruislip seat.
"I keep being asked if Boris is a front runner but I don't know because I don't know who the other runners are yet.
"I would welcome Boris as and MP but he will know if he were to put his name forward it is not going to be a shoo-in. At the end of the day, the right man for the job will be chosen, the person who will do the best job for the constituency," he said.
