Police are hoping to drive illegal dirt bikers off the troubled 'Pits' area by building a series of mountain bike jumps that are two steep for their scooters to climb.

Inspector Dave Henfrey, of Feltham Police, says his force have faced a long-running battle to keep the area of wasteland next to Bedfont Industrial Estate clear of illegal bikers, who risk serious injury to themselves and cause constant disruption for neighbouring estates.

"We launched a crackdown a couple of weeks ago and we've confiscated lots of bikes which were being driven illegally at The Pits." he added. "But trying to police the area is very labour intensive and has been a huge drain on our resources so we're hoping these new jumps will help discourage the bikers."

The five foot high mounds of earth will be installed as soon as the Feltham police find a lorry to move the earth into position.
