Scouts have officially moved into a new home in Heston, which was built after their old hut was demolished to make way for a new leisure centre.

The 4th Heston Scout Group's former base was among the buildings torn down so a new £13.5 million leisure centre and homes could be built at the site in New Heston Road, Heston.

But a new hut beside the old Heston Pool was paid for by Hounslow Council and completed before their old one was razed to ensure their activities were not disrupted.

The new hut was officially unveiled last Friday (July 11).

David Gilchrist, leader of the group's scout section, said he was very happy with their new quarters, which they are renting on a long-term lease from the council.

"We've got a nice big hall and indoor toilets, which is something we didn't have before," he said.

Scouts have been in Heston since 1934 and there were seven troops in the area at the height of the movement's popularity.

But 4th Heston, which has about 50 members aged six to 18, and 7th Heston, which meets in Cranford Lane, are the only remaining troops in the area.
