A primary school in Heston has been hailed by Ofsted inspectors after boosting pupils' writing and maths skills.

Heston Primary School went from 'requires improvement' last year to 'good' - the second highest of four bands - following the latest visit in mid-September.

In their report, just published, inspectors heralded the improvement in teaching standards, which they said had significantly boosted attainment.

They were particularly effusive about the school's work to narrow the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers, who they said had been around five terms ahead in maths.

"Subject leaders are skilful in using the school's detailed information about pupils' progress to pinpoint those pupils who need extra help," inspectors observed.

"As a result, most pupils are making god progress and the likelihood of a pupil falling through the net is now much lower."

Inspectors said the school, in Heston Road, Heston, could improve by ensuring the most able pupils were given harder work when they were ready to move on.

Councillor Tom Bruce, Hounslow's cabinet member for education, said: "We are delighted that following its recent Ofsted inspection, Heston Primary School is now judged 'good'.

"The council has been working closely with the school since it was judged ‘requires improvement’ in a previous inspection. We congratulate all the staff and pupils at Heston Primary for their hard work."
