A HESTON firefighter is among four ex-Royal Marines attempting to row the Atlantic for charity.

Aldo Diana, who has been a firefighter for 20 years and has been named London’s fittest firefighter several times, set off from the Canary Islands on December 14.

The crew had already made it about a quarter of the way to their destination, the Caribbean, a fortnight into their journey, on December 28. They hope to raise £75,000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

Mr Diana has already attempted to row the Atlantic once, in 2008/9, but had to abort the mission after a collision with a 400,000-ton cargo ship near Cape Verde.

He is no stranger to adventure, having twice completed the London Marathon and also run 155 miles across the Sahara desert in just six days.
