I HAVE the honour and the privilege of writing the Roll of Honour for the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert's Own) 1939-1945 and 1946-1947.

This is the first ever written memorial dedicated to the 165 members and the four attached personnel of the regiment who, sadly, never came back.

Among their number is one who was in the regiment: Trooper William Markwell Hardy, 547616, 12th Royal Lancers (11th Hussars 'Prince Albert's Own') Royal Armoured Corps.

He was born on March 7, 1908 and died on December 22, 1941. He was the son of William and Darina Hardy and husband of Edna Maud Hardy, of 42 Bedford Road, West Ealing.

Trooper Hardy is commemorated with honour at the El Alamein War Memorial in Egypt.

I am trying to trace relatives and descendants of William (or anyone who knew the family) to glean information to include in William's entry in the Roll of Honour, as well as any known war or church memorial upon which William has been commemorated.

I would also like to hear from anyone else whose relatives served in the 11th Hussars Cherrypickers (the Desert Rats) from 1939-1945.

I am also trying to trace families of these men: Tpr Alfred Frank Barr, 14641679 (April 30, 1923- April 5, 1945); Tpr Robert Henry Green, 319039 (November 29, 1916-September 18, 1944); Tpr Edward William Neal, 14511993 (September 13, 1924-October 22, 1944); Tpr Thomas Arras Potter, 839147 (March 6, 1916-February 4, 1941); Tpr Dennis James Robinson, 14561047 (February 10, 1925-June 18, 1944); L/Corporal Alfred John Sawyer, 549457 (November 13, 1914-February 8, 1941); and Tpr Norman Frank White, 14433654 (November 19, 1920-October 28,1944).
