DOMESTIC violence surgeries have been launched in the borough for the first time, helping victims with support and advice.

The Southall Black Sisters, a not-for-profit organisation that tackles all gender-related violence within ethnic minority groups in the UK, is working with Hillview doctors' surgery, in Bilton Road, Perivale, to provide the service.

The free drop-in service is open to all women, or those seeking advice for women, regardless of their background.

It is held every Wednesday from 9am to noon and no appointment is necessary.

The sessions are run by trained and experienced advocates who can help with a wide range of issues, including sexual harassment, rape, forced marriage and related problems with immigration and mental health.

Dr Vasu Siva, of Hillview Surgery, said: "This is an exciting opportunity and I feel it will make a real difference to people's lives."

Pragna Patel, director of Southall Black Sisters, said: "This has not been attempted in the borough before and, if successful, it will serve as an important model of how to deliver quality services in a collaborative way."
