Parents of a brave six-year-old boy suffering with a brain tumour have made a heartfelt plea for help to raise £80,000 for their son's life-saving surgery.
Joanna Plewka, 32, and husband Tomasz, 35, of Parkfield Road, Feltham, looked for alternative ways to save their oldest son Matthias's life after two bouts of chemotherapy failed and doctors said there was nothing more they could do.
The Plewka’s, who also have a younger son Simon, almost one-years-old, were distraught but did not give up, and their search led them to Germany where they found a doctor who has agreed to carry out brain surgery and remove the growing tumour.
The miracle for their son now rests on being able to raise a massive £50,000 for the surgery and an additional £30,000 for post surgery treatment and rehabilitation.
So far the courageous little boy has defied of all odds, fighting for his life despite doctors saying he had only up to one year to live, after he was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour in 2010.
A message from Matthias on his website reads: "Mr Doctor is a brave man and he is willing to take on the task that no one else wanted.
"But before he will do it my parents also have a very huge job to do, they must raise £80,000 that is needed for this operation.
"I’m not the best with numbers, but it’s probably a lot.
"So pretty please can you and your friends help my parents, because all I want is to be healthy and enjoy my life!"
Doctors removed part of the tumour in 2010 and a gruelling course of chemotherapy followed, which finished in 2012.
Between 2012 to date, Matthias has had several variations of MRI scans in the UK, Poland and Germany, had a large cyst removed, and was been denied Proton Beam Therapy treatment.
The family opted against radiotherapy as it only gave their son three extra months to live.
In January this year, the Plewka’s found a doctor who is willing to carry out brain surgery and remove the growing tumour.
Now, they are calling on the community, friends and families everywhere for immediate help to donate anything they can and "please help us save our son's life."
Mother-of-two Mrs Plewka, said: We have been fighting with Matthias's brain tumour for the last four years.
"It is horrible for any parent to hear that your child will die.
"For us every penny counts especially when we know that there is a doctor who is willing to help us and save our son.
"This is a lot of money but Matthias needs it as soon as possible, otherwise he will die.
"Every little counts and brings surgery closer.
"Any funds that are not used for Matthias will remain with Luna's Little Star charity."
So far donations stand at £2,848.
Help raise money for Matthias’s life-saving surgery and join the Plewka’s for a family fun day with attractions including Zumba for children, a bouncy castle, live band, food stalls and much more.
The event will be held at Groveley Road, building next to Feltham Glass Works Ltd, from midday to 6pm on June 1, 2014. Children go free, adults £1.
