THE LABOUR MP who was suspended from the House of Commons for showing his disgust over the Third Runway announcement has given his backing to the Council's legal challenge.

John McDonnell, Hayes and Harlington MP, has lent his support to the 2M Group of council's and various campaign groups who this week lodged paper at the High Court challenging the Government decision made in January to give the green light to the airport expansion.

He said: ""This legal action effectively means that the game's up on the Government's 3rd runway plans.

"The legal action will result in such a significant delay in the planning process the whole project is now put at such risk any investor would have to be insane to be willing to stump up the funds to pay for what is looking increasingly like this Government's white elephant.

"I am calling on the Government to face up to the reality that the 3rd runway is not going to get off the ground and to start planning for a sustainable alternative in high speed rail linking our existing airports in London and the country more efficiently."

Mr McDonnell, whose constituency includes Heathrow Airport, was removed from the House of Commons after grabbing the Speaker's mace, following Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon's announcement to allow the Third Runway.
