TEACHERS at a local school have won a national award for ICT.

Jack Davidson, April Thomas and Vicki Edwards accepted the NAACE ICT Impact Award (Early Years) on behalf of Heathfield School for Girls, Beaulieu Drive, Pinner.

The award recognises the innovative work that the IT and Early Years departments have done to promote communication with parents and improve how the school assesses learning in nursery and reception classes.

Parents are able to log on to a secure website at lunchtime to see what their child has been doing in class and teachers use iPod Touches to post photos of classroom activities to an individual’s Learning Journey, which keeps parents updated with their daughter’s progress.

Headteacher Anne Stevens said: “Staff in the nursery and reception classes have found that the Learning Journeys have been a valuable assessment and communication tool. Parents are able to upload information too, so recording progress and milestones for each girl is a truly collaborative process.”

The three teachers attended the NAACE Strategic Conference in Leicester on Friday, March 8 to collect the award.
