Primary school headteacher Peter Shawley retired in style with a Disney themed party to remember.

Mr Shawley has been head of Charville Primary in Bury Avenue, Hayes, for 24 years and will retire at the end of the summer term.

He joined his pupils and staff in dressing up as Disney princes and princesses, villains and heroes to celebrate his last few days at the school.

Parents, carers, neighbours of the school and former pupils also joined in the fun on the day, which included fairground rides and a special lunch.

Hayes MP John McDonnell attended to pay tribute to the headteacher, who helped some of his pupils campaign to improved road safety outside the school in 2011.

Current and ex-pupils gave speeches about their teacher and some talented pupils performed a song that had been especially written for Mr Shawley.

He was presented with a cake in the shape of the much trusted teaching tool - an overhead projector - as he enjoyed the sunshine on the school field during the party on Friday, July 18.
