AN INQUEST will shortly be opened into the tragic death of a teenager in Hayes who was shot with an air rifle over the weekend.
Sam Shaw, 15, from the Pinkwell area of Hayes, died in the back garden of a house on Saturday at around 4pm.
It is believed he was with two other boys who were practicing target shooting with the rifle when the incident occurred.
A police spokesman said: "Officers were called at 4.20pm to reports of a boy shot with an air rifle.
"On arrival they found Sam who was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Hillingdon CID are continuing to investigate and a full report will be compiled for the coroner.
"At this stage we are treating it as a family tragedy. There have been no arrests made. A post mortem is due to take place and this will be followed by the opening and adjourning of an inquest."
