Hayes students pushed to the limits during three peaks challenge

A-Level students from Hayes took on an extreme challenge by climbing Britain's three highest mountains.

Barnhill Community High students Billy Moone, Jack McDermott and Sam Dixon, all 17, joined their teacher Helen Gillingham to climb the three peaks as part of an annual challenge organised by education charity, The Transformation Trust.

The brave young people were among teams from seven schools across the country, with each school being paired with a set of business mentors.

The students from the school in Yeading Lane, Hayes, were paired with four business leaders from hotel group, Hilton.

The amazing feat of climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden took the challengers just one weekend, on September 13 and 14.

Overall, 52 climbers took part with others coming from Manchester, Leeds, Hull and Bournemouth.

As well as a strenuous physical challenge, the trip was designed to create a mentoring opportunity between the sixth formers and the major UK companies and organisations.

Helen Gillingham, key stage director of years 11 to 13 at Barnhill Community High, said: "Myself and the three students were very excited to have the opportunity to take part in the Three Peaks Challenge.

"It was a fantastic opportunity for students, and we are grateful to The Transformation Trust for providing it."

Laura Halstead, Chiara Delpriore and Rebecca Grigg from Hilton joined the climb.

Miss Grigg said: "The aims of The Transformation Trust perfectly reflect the company’s recent pledge to connect with one million young people by 2019. 

"We enjoyed the fun challenge of partnering with pupils in what was a truly adventurous and mutually beneficial, rewarding experience."
