A FIERY shop worker who spent months on a remote island for a hit TV show has spoken about her experience.
Dominique James, 23, was one of 10 people shipped off to an island 12,000 miles away in the South Pacific for the long-running reality show Shipwrecked.
The group had to build camps and fend for themselves while enjoying their idyllic surroundings and getting to know their fellow castaways.
The retail assistant, of Botwell Lane, Hayes, who returned to the UK in October, told the Gazette about what life was like without her home comforts.
“This series was back to basics, so we only had rations and nothing else,” she said. “It was really hard, and you needed to be a strong character to cope with it. I am a really ‘girly girl’, so the first thing I did when I got back was go to Superdrug and get my hair products and make-up.”
The group lived on rations of rice, pasta, tinned meat and any extra food had to be scavenged.
“Some days we had to have lamb tongue, which was disgusting,” said Ms James. “I missed Nando’s and McDonald’s!”
Described as ‘loud’ and ‘charismatic’ with a ‘natural party attitude’ in her show profile, Dominique has lived in Hayes all her life and attended Bishop Ramsey School, in Ruislip.
“My friends and family are really proud of me, and I have had loads of nice messages on Twitter,” she said.
“Overall, it was just out of this world – an awesome experience that I will never forget.”
