Baddiel and Skinner captured the nations hearts in 1996 with Three Lions - could a Hayes swimming teacher be about to do the same with his 2010 World Cup song?

Neil Sullivan, 28, has written a world cup 'hit' he hopes will be replayed all-summer long.

His aspirations are no long shot at all, he has teamed up with the lead singer of novelty pop band Black Lace, Dene Michaels, who has helped turn his dream into a reality.

Neil who lives in the Charville area of Hayes, and teaches as an instructor at Hayes Pool, in Central Avenue, is determined to crack the Top 40 charts and become a summer success.

All proceeds from the single are also set to go to troops charity Help 4 Heroes .

Neil, who has renamed himself for the single as 'DJ Neil Philips' and has enlisted extra celebrity assistance in the form of Bruce Jones, who played Les Battersby in Coronation Street, to direct the music video.

The song 'We are the England fans' is to the same tune of 'Music Man' by Black Lace , still heard in bars and clubs and holiday venues home and abroad.

Neil said: "I wrote the lyrics ages ago, and recently got in touch with Dene Michaels from Black Lace, and sung the song to him and he loved it.

"We're aiming to hit the charts and get onto the radio stations, we could be as big as Three Lions and Vindaloo."

"We are meeting with the record label within two weeks, and we are considering shooting the video on an open top bus, although weather may be an issue."

A trip to Wembley is also on the cards- for tonight's friendly game with Egypt, Neil will be attending in the stands with Dene Michaels.

Michaels was a member of Black Lace between 1986 and 1991 and was behind the Music Man single, and re-released Agadoo upon his return to the band last year.

The single is likely to be released in May, and Neil is hoping to drum up support, and has a Facebook page online supporting his efforts, with over 500 people already involved.

The Gazette has also had a sneak peak at the single and believes it has a real chance of hitting the airwaves and becoming a surprise world cup anthem.

As for England's chances at the World Cup- Neil hopes the team will go as far as he hopes his single will, number one.

"Rooney is just amazing, everything that has gone on with Terry and Cole lately is concerning, but I think it will be positive, we will do well."
