HAYDON School is among the top 10 per cent of schools in the country for its GCSE results last year, according to a new rankings system.

Twenty eight per cent of students at the school, in Wiltshire Lane, Eastcote, received 5 A* or A grades, including maths and English.

Every school in the country has been ranked according to how well they performed by the Specialist Schools and Acadamies Trust (SSAT).

The new system is supposed to raise the bar for schools by reflecting only the top grades.

Sue Williamson, chief executive of SSAT, said: “Haydon School has proved itself to be one of the best schools in the country at securing superb GCSE outcomes for their students. There is plenty that other schools could learn from Haydon School’s success.

“Successful schools like Haydon understand the value of data, such as these attainment measures, in helping to ensure all young people perform to the very best of their ability.

“The attainment measures show how schools are focused on their performance and the outcomes of all their students.”

The school has also won a bid for £920,000 from the Department for Education to extend one of its buildings and create a purpose built performing arts centre. More plans are expected to be unveiled soon.

Headteacher Steve Robson, said: “This has been an ambition of the school for many years and I am delighted that this will now become a reality.

“I am immensely proud of the exam results. They are a testament to the quality staff and students at Haydon School who work hard to achieve.”
