A CARD and gifts store in Harrow is to shut by Thursday in the latest round of mass closures.

The Birthdays outlet in St George’s Shopping Centre in St Ann’s Road, was one of 122 branches of Clinton Cards and its related brands which administrators handling the company announced today would be locked permanently in one fell swoop.

Clinton Cards and its subsidiaries went into liquidation on May 9 and administrators Zolfo Cooper sold 397 stores - including the Clintons Cards store in St Ann's Road, Harrow - to Lakeshore Lending, a subsidiary of American Greetings Corp. The move secured 4,500 jobs.

The fate of the Clintons Cards shop in Bridge Street, Pinner, remains unknown but looks grim.

In a statement Zolfo Cooper said: "The joint administrators are still focusing their efforts on the stores identified as part of the closure programme announced on May 16.

"As a part of this exercise, the joint administrators continue to welcome expressions of interest for this part of the estate, as a whole or in part.

"Further announcements relating to the store closure program will be made available when appropriate."
