Labour's Gareth Thomas has been re-elected as MP for Harrow West.

The politician beat Tory Hannah David to the seat to hold it for Ed Miliband's party, with a 47% share of the vote. He won by a small majority of just over 2,000 votes.

In his acceptance speech he expressed his mandate for representing Harrow West.

He said we would “oppose further cuts to our National Health Service, to fight for more investment into Northwick Park Hospital, lead the effort for a higher standards of schools in Harrow and to oppose further cuts to the Metropolitan Police”.

He thanked Conservative opponent, Hannah David, for the "considerable fight" put up by her, adding: “This is the seat that I grew up in and have many family and friends in and it is a huge honour to have the privilege to represent this seat once again.”

Speaking for Labour nationally, he said: “We’ve had some good results, notably in London, but we haven't had as good a night as we'd hoped.”

UKIP candidate Mohammad Ali Bhatti received 2,047, Lib Dem’s Chris Noyce polled 1,567 votes

The Green Party’s Rowan Langley took 1,310 of the vote whilst independent candidate Kailash Trivedi had 117.
